This route is an editorial trip idea, not a bookable package tour – a suggestion for how four key sites of the Danish Viking Age can be sensibly combined into an individual journey. It runs from Scandinavia’s oldest town in southwestern Jutland to the world-famous Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde on Zealand.

Stages
Ribe – Arrival in the Oldest Town in Scandinavia
Start of the journey in Scandinavia’s oldest town. Visit Museet Ribes Vikinger and, depending on the season, Ribe VikingeCenter with living history. In the evening, a stroll through the medieval old town.
On to Jelling – the Cradle of the Danish Monarchy
Drive from Ribe to Jelling. Visit Kongernes Jelling with the runestones, the burial mounds, and the reconstructed palisade – the place where Denmark was first mentioned by name.
Aarhus – Moesgaard Museum
Continue to Aarhus to the Moesgaard Museum, one of Denmark’s most important archaeological museums with an extensive Viking Age collection. In the afternoon, time for the port city of Aarhus itself.
Roskilde – Viking Ship Museum
Cross the Great Belt Bridge (Storebælt) on to Roskilde on Zealand. Highlight: the world-famous Viking Ship Museum with five recovered original ships from Roskilde Fjord. A fitting end to the trip, near Copenhagen.
